To obtain a Free "Domain Name" for your Apache Server, check-out http://dyndns.org. When you get there, find the link "Dynamic DNS and Static DNS". With DynDNS and when properly configured, your WAN Static or Dynamic IP address will resolve to your FREE Domain name on your home server. With a Dynamic WAN IP, FREE third-party software is available to make automatic changes when your ISP changes your IP address. DynDNS combined with DynSite actually works; my assigned IP is automatically updated and my experimental home-based Apache or IIS Server continues to serve web pages without a static IP. Caution: Most ISP's prohibit commercial home servers and experimental home servers are not recommended for use as business web sites. DynSite is Trialware, free to try, then you must buy. The Wise Old Blogger said, "My ISP charges about $10.00 per month for a static IP, so the one-time charge for DynSite is much more cost-effective and the DynDNS Domain name is free". Visit Find My IP to read more about dynamic and static IP addressing. Have Fun!! |
