Knoppix is amazing: http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html

Designed using the Free Debian/GNU/Linux Operating System, "KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD..." Burn the .iso image to CD or DVD, restart and it's ready to go as a Linux Rescue disk. At about 700 MB, a fast Broadband connection is recommended; Download the English Version via FTP or HTTP here:

How-to use Knoppix as a Linux Rescue CD:

"Remaster Knoppix without Remastering" is an excellent resource for How-to create and use a knoppix.sh script:

Knoppix hangs-up at boot:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-knoppix/2005/01/msg00009.html

The Wise Old Blogger was able to use DHCP with Knoppix 3.6 (Kernel 2.4 ), but the later versions stopped at the DHCP section of the boot-up process. Using the knoppix nodhcp command at the boot prompt allows the OS to load normally for further configuration of the Network; however, any effort to add, configure or 'bring up' the eth0 interface with Versions after 3.6 causes my computer to freeze which then requires a restart.

Built using the Debian OS, the Knoppix CD/DVD will easily run an Apache Server (from the CD) from a shell command prompt...

Start apache with the Apache Control command:

su for root permissions with no password required, then

apachectl start

To see the Apache/Debian placeholder page, open a web browser and type:

http://localhost

Use the following command after making any changes in the /etc/apache/httpd.conf file:

apachectl graceful

Have Fun!
